‘Always treat people the way you’d like to be treated’ so the adage suggests. However, as true as this statement is, it can be incredibly difficult to do so at times. Tommy MacGregor investigates the issues surrounding equality and diversity

I’m sure nobody goes out to deliberately discriminate against people, but we can all say and do things that we later regret. Therefore, ensuring we all understand the legislation, and can comply with it, is crucial to ensuring we don’t fall foul to the legislation. Equally, it is important we know our rights– and where to obtain support and advice if we feel we have been treated unfairly.

Equality is about ensuring everyone has equal opportunity and is not discriminated or treated differently due to any protected characteristics they may have. Diversity recognises and respect peoples’ differences, whilst emphasising the importance of promoting and valuing cultural inclusiveness.
