From very early on in our professional lives, perhaps the first week, we are taught about confidentiality. It is the opinion of the author that the general level of knowledge for dental nurses is low. Brennan et al (2013, p. 43), state: ‘Confidentiality is the cornerstone of all good relationships and good dental practice. Dental professionals are privileged when patients divulge information to them, and they should ensure that this information is kept confidential and used only for the purpose for which it is given.’
