FAQs on indemnity

4 mins read Complaint handling
There has been some confusion on the indemnity requirement for dental nurses. It’s plain and simple – all registered dental professionals require indemnity, says Priya Sharma

Indemnity is when one party (indemnifier) has the obligation to pay for any loss that may be incurred by another party (dental professional). Professional indemnity is insurance to protect you and your patient in the event of a complaint, negligence claims or litigation. It is the law that all healthcare professionals have appropriate indemnity whilst practising clinically.

What does the GDC say?

The GDC’s Standards for the Dental Team states the following:

At the time of renewing your registration, you must declare that you hold the necessary indemnity. If you are restoring your registration with the GDC, you must ensure you have indemnity as well.
