Newly qualified dental nurse and mum of one, Gemma Forsythe, works for MyDentist in their Stunning Smiles practice in Portadown, a small town in Northern Ireland. Here, she shares her passion for oral health education

I found dentistry fascinating as a patient. I also knew that I wanted a career in healthcare. I have loved this profession since my first day and I haven’t looked back!

I achieved my NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing through Southern Regional College, Portadown campus in March 2020, just as the pandemic took hold. I have been very lucky that the company has been amazing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I have been able to work fewer days while remaining on full pay.

I have been collecting information from those patients who have rung into the practice experiencing dental pain. This involves assisting the dentist in triaging them over the phone while the practice has been shut. I have also been nursing for some emergency treatments.
