Ellen Cummings talks to Jo Minchin about a new scrubs brand

How did you and Lyndsey

start working together?

We have our own laser and skin clinics in Oxfordshire and Cheshire. We met through work and formed a great respect for each other’s business acumen. When the first lockdown came along, we decided to use the gift of time and collaborate. We created the UK’s first cosmeceutical CBD skincare range called Grass Roots Skin. Since then, we have become firm friends with a shared passion for business and travel (and wine!).

Why did you decide to create Funky Scrubs?

We were due to go back to work after the second lockdown in April 2021 when Lyndsey suggested we wear scrubs in the clinic. My experience of scrubs had been boxy, shapeless and uncomfortable things I certainly did not want to wear. I was also opposed to synthetic tunics, so I gave a flat no to the idea. Lyndsey had found some stylish-looking scrubs that looked great, but they were from the US. I was reluctant to buy from the US as there were added customs and delivery costs, plus the heavy price tag of returning them if they weren’t right (£29 to be exact!).
