Dental nurse Eloise Meldrum shares her enthusiasm for communication in a virtual world

‘Social media’ is one of many 21st-century additions to the dictionary and now part of everyday language.

Similarly, ‘social distancing’ is, without doubt, an even more recent inclusion. It’s likely the latter has caused an uptake in usage of the former. For many seasoned users of the various applications this was taken in their stride, for others the plethora of tools and jargon may have seemed like learning a new language.

Eloise Meldrum, a dental nurse and avid social media user, talks us through her favoured platforms and the benefits social media can bring to the industry and beyond.

Sense of community

My preferred applications are WhatsApp, Instagram and FaceTime. Certainly, FaceTime was really helpful for keeping in touch with family and friends during lockdown – it was nice to be able to see them over a call, and it helped make up for not actually being able to spend time with them in person. I am certainly thankful we have such tools.
