A short and seemingly insignificant letter to the editor in a newspaper last month drew much attention in the dental world. It made a huge impact on social media and was shared and commented upon by many dental professionals, illustrating just how powerful the internet can be. Quite simply, this letter was written by a patient in defence of the cost of a dental examination. In it, they reveal that a dentist discovered cancer during their routine check up. In doing so, the author unwittingly highlighted – in fewer than 100 words – why your role in health care is key.
