Take a few moments to think about your practice team and ask yourself the following questions:
Who is in charge?
Who do you book your annual leave with?
Who would you ask about a new aspect of clinical practice?
Who would you talk to if you were feeling unhappy at work?
Who would you go to for advice on your professional development?
Who do you look up to and respect as a dental nurse?
Who is your line manager?
Who leads the practice team?
These are interesting questions and prompt considerable discussion when asked to a group of clinically based staff. In summary, the smaller the practice or team within which you work, the more likely it is that one or maybe two people fulfil these roles. Conversely, the larger the practice or team the more likely there is that a number of different people are involved in these roles and responsibilities.
