Good communication is the cornerstone of all dental journeys and, in my experience, good communication skills have to begin between the dentist and the dental nurse. This helps create better team work, efficiency while working, and builds trust between them. Effective communication promotes better teamwork.
The patient will likely feel the comfort of communication between the team, and it helps them become more relaxed and they know they are in safe hands. Most importantly, the crucial communication between the dental team and the patient becomes easier as the patient feels comfortable and safe in the chair.
Talking to and listening to the patient will ensure a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. This is essential for emergency appointments particularly, and when the patient is in pain. Knowing the facts can improve outcomes and satisfaction for the patient. Communicating successfully to a patient builds trust between the dental team and the patient, the patient is fully informed about what is going on, and so there is no miscommunication. This can also reduce the likelihood of complaints.
