When you join a practice, there will be several things you need to know about that particular practice before you can actually carry out your work safely, not only for yourself but for others too. The aim of the induction is to equip all new recruits with an understanding of:
? The practice and the general day-to-day systems that are in place
? Any procedures specific to the role
? Any essential health and safety requirements, including practice risk assessments
? The procedures for medical emergencies
? The confidentiality of patient information
? Formal practice policies.
It is advisable to ensure that you as the new member of staff (especially if you are a trainee nurse) has undergone any relevant immunisations before attempting any exposure prone procedures.
