Leah Nickless won the Society of British Dental Nurses’ Outstanding Dental Nurse Award last year. Here, she talks about her brilliant career

Where do you work?

At the time of receiving the Society of British Dental Nurses’ Outstanding Dental Nurse Award last year, I was working within Birmingham Community Locality within the BCHC Trust. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the management structure across the Birmingham clinics, working as an assistant senior dental nurse. Working within the specialist division brings both challenges and rewards and I feel so lucky to have been a part of an organisation with values that really do shine across staff and patients.

BCHC provides specialist services for patients whose needs cannot be met within the day-to-day practice environment and are therefore referred into the service. Sedation, general anaesthetic, paediatric and special care adults, secure units and restorative services were all provided within the community setting.
