Overlooking waterline contamination could leave Britain’s dental surgeries facing a post-Christmas nightmare, according to Laura Edgar, managing director of Aura Infection Control. Laura has issued a heartfelt plea for surgeries not to forget the dangers of leaving waterlines unattended during the festive season.

Although a dental surgery may look spotless to the naked eye, the reality can be very different. Waterlines, even in newly installed equipment, can be a source of hidden dangers. Bacteria and other micro-organisms form a biofilm, which sticks to the inside of the tubing through which the water flows. As the liquid is pumped through the line, contamination is inevitable.
