Photography plays a huge and essential role in the delivery of modern-day dentistry. It is a powerful communication tool, converting patients as well as educating them about their oral health status. It is also a key part of record taking and can make a difference to practice profits – both in persuading patients to say ‘yes’ to treatment as well as showcasing the work of the team on social media.
Here, dental nurse Danielle Schroven and paediatric dentist Makbule Ogretme, best known as Dr Mac, share their experience of enhancing their skillset with a camera – and huge amount of enthusiasm.

I am about to start my photography training with the British Orthodontic Society (BOS) and I’m really excited. It consists of modules, case studies and lots of observations by my head clinician. I’ve taken photos before and anyone on Instagram will know I love photography, so this course is really exciting to me. The clinician I work with, Sean McHugh, bought me Understanding photography by Sean T. McHugh as a Christmas present. I’ve always had an interest in photography and my partner brought me a Canon camera, which I love!
