It may be that when you qualified, the way you learnt was being told something by a tutor, lecturer or someone more experienced than yourself. Knowledge was passed from the learned to you, the learner, and it was the same for the whole class. The idea that we have different preferences in the way we like to learn may not have been touched upon or maybe even recognised. Since then some changes have taken place. During the 1980s, ideas about learning styles began to emerge. Kolb published his theories in 1984 which built on the work of Carl Jung (1875-1961) the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalysis. Other work followed.
