Qualifying in Ireland during a pandemic, Rebecca Fitzsimons explains why working with multiple dentists gets her out of her comfort zone and shares tips on adapting to the different clinicians

I have been very fortunate with my career so far – even though it has only just begun since I qualified in July 2020. I began working in private practice at the end of first year at the weekends. Since qualifying, I have become a full-time employee and I am loving it. I really think this was the reason I was fortunate enough to win the IDNA award for Best Clinical Performance for my year, as I built up my confidence when nursing by being around more patients. I have recently been offered the role as treatment coordinator for our endodontist, which has been a real step out of my comfort zone. Anyone who knows me will tell you I hate making phone calls but, since starting this, I have conquered this fear and I am really enjoying my new role within the practice.
