Many dental professionals, including dental nurses, experience anxiety regarding the provision of treatment for pregnant patients. However, it is important to be mindful of the fact that pregnancy itself should not be considered a contraindication for the provision of dental care. There are undoubtedly times when elective treatment should be delayed or avoided, especially during the more critical stages of foetal development, however, any such decision should always be balanced against the potential risks. Dental nurses have an important role in the management of pregnant patients and the key considerations for dental nurses will be discussed in this article.
