The Care Quality Commission has published its proposed new Fundamental Standards. Are they a ‘new start’ or more of the same?

Life in dental practice for the most part is extremely busy, so if the advent of the new Care Quality Commission (CQC) Fundamental Standards (CQC, 2014a) had passed you by, or if you felt that in the main they did not make a lot of difference to your work as a dental nurse, then you might want to take a few minutes to take a look at what is being proposed.

Taken on their own, there are some key changes that may affect many of you, but taken in conjunction with the General Dental Council (GDC)'s Standards for the Dental Team, published in September 2013 (GDC, 2013), there are some interesting trends and overlaps that are worth noting and reflecting in terms of what these mean for you and your practice or dental organisation.
