Homeopathy has faced both acclaim and scrutiny since its conception in 1796. It is a natural approach to healing, and some studies have shown a benefit to the intervention of homeopathic care. However, some countries are attempting to phase out homeopathy, from their healthcare establishments to their universities. In England, the NHS said it would no longer fund homeopathy, as the lack of evidence for its effectiveness did not justify the cost. Despite this, alternative medicine is still relatively persistent in the 21st century: a study demonstrated that, within 11 countries surveyed, a small but significant percentage of their populations still use homeopathy.
