The magic of mentorship

Elizabeth da Corte emphasises the importance of having a good mentor.

The importance of having a great mentor to guide and support you early in your dental nursing career is invaluable, as they are the source of inspiration in the process of learning and growing. Vocation is something that we don’t always understand when we are young, but that we easily distinguish in people who have it. Because people with a mentor vocation can transmit to us much more than they intended and even expect. Being a good guide for learners goes far beyond exchanging questions and answers whose purpose seems only to obtain an adequate formula so they can evaluate the mentee, which barely outlines the real capacity of a learner. On this note, a good mentor entails so much more than asking questions and providing solutions to learners – their true mission is to motivate them to question themselves repeatedly while inviting them to go after the answers and guiding them steadily along the way.
