Sugar – and its profound negative impact on health – has received a vast amount of publicity recently. So, how much sugar do we consume? The simple answer is too much.

Recently Public Health England (PHE) stated that the average child in the UK is consuming the equivalent of three cubes (one cube = 4g of sugar) of sugar at breakfast, in turn, having half of their daily sugar allowance even before they get to school. They further went on to say that on average children have three times the suggested amount of sugar by the end of the day. Sugar is now being considered a massive health problem. The high intake of sugar is directly related with being overweight/obese which increases the risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart conditions, stroke and some cancers. Indeed sugar has a direct impact on tooth decay.
