Effective decontamination of dental instruments is an essential part of infection control and the provision of quality dental care. Decontamination is a combination of processes – cleaning, disinfection, inspection and sterilisation – that ensures reusable surgical instruments, handpieces and medical devices are made safe for use on patients and handling by staff.
