The changing landscape of orthodontics

Orthodontics accounts for 9% of the overall dental budget in the UK.1 It is a significant part of dentistry and is predicted to continue this way as patients, young and old, seek to improve the appearance and health of their dentition. The orthodontic offering has come on leaps and bounds in the past few decades as new materials, techniques and equipment have been developed and introduced onto the market. Also, the demand from patients has shifted; it is no longer just the young that require correction to their newly formed permanent teeth. The adult population is also more aware of the possibilities available to them for improved facial aesthetics.
