
Whilst we hope the situation never arises, we know that there is always potential for medical emergencies to occur within the dental practice. All members of the dental team should, therefore, be aware of the procedures and protocols in place, as and when such emergencies arise, for the safety of both the patients and all members of staff. In this article, I hope to shed some light on a variety of medical emergencies, what symptoms they will present, and what actions dental professionals should take.
What is cardiac arrest?
Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating effectively, leading to a cessation of blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. This condition is life-threatening and requires immediate intervention to prevent death or serious complications.
