Since the time of Homer, and probably even before, the world has used the clothes someone wears to gain an impression of who they are, or as Erasmus put it, “vestis virum fecit” – “the clothes make the man”.
Ideally, what we wear allows us to express ourselves while tailoring the garments to the type of activity. We can choose the colour, the style and the fabric that suits us and what we have planned to do. However, healthcare uniforms have long been on the opposite side of the spectrum – generic, unflattering, restrictive and made from stiff fabrics that require special care and ironing.
