Since 2008, dental care professionals (DCPs) must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) in order to legally practise. This means that all DCPs need to gain a qualification that is recognised and accredited by the GDC – such as the National Diploma, National Vocational Qualification, an apprenticeship scheme, the Certificate of Higher Education in Dental Nursing or a foundation degree in dental nursing - in order to apply to be included on the GDC’s register.
Any qualification requires some form of assessment, be it an end-of-course exit examination or an end-of-module test. Assessments need to be prepared for well in advance to ensure a satisfactory outcome.
