Rebecca Silver discusses oral health education and career aspirations with Lucy Blodau.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the dental field after leaving school?

I left school in 1998 having no idea what I wanted to do. I have a vivid memory of my Mum and I sitting at the dining room table, flicking through the job vacancies in the newspaper. My mother was the one who spotted a dental nursing role and encouraged me to apply, which I did successfully!

How did your experiences at Killigarth Court Dental Surgery shape your career path in the dental field?

I only spent a year at Kiligarth Court. To be honest I did find it very challenging, the dentistry industry is fast paced, and I was working with various dentists, learning how to assist the clinician while also learning the role of receptionist. At that time in my life, I was incredibly shy and lacked confidence, finding it all very overwhelming, so I decided to hand my notice in and search for other occupations.
