Roxanne Barnes is practice manager at Genix Middlesbrough, supports a team of 21 employees/dentists and is responsible for NHS contract and private targets. She oversees the daily running of the practice and find solutions to any problems that may arise. She says, “I am extremely supportive of both patients and staff and like the practice to be a nice environment for all.”
Recently, her practice held its first kids’ club. Here, she talks us through her experience.
Why was the kids’ club created?
Kids’ club was created in response to the pandemic and the outcome that many children were left without a dentist during this time. We decided to create an afternoon where just children are booked in and can enjoy a more fun and relaxed environment. Often when children come to the dentist with their parents/carers or watch adults waiting in pain, it can transfer phobias and nervousness to the children and they become fearful – even when we want to simply look at their teeth. We hoped that by making the afternoon fun and positive, the children would learn more about oral health and the importance of brushing correctly and attending regularly throughout their lifetime.
