You will likely have heard of Teeth Team, especially if you’re based in the North of of England, in conjunction with promoting children’s dental health initiatives as well as water fluoridation schemes. But do you know what it is, what it does and who runs it? You may be surprised to learn that this nationwide dental charity is largely run by three very dedicated dental nurses.
Teeth Team is a school-based supervised tooth-brushing programme, incorporating clinical dental assessments, applications of fluoride varnish and the subsequent signposting for accessing primary and secondary dental care. It is a collaborative working partnership that has been in existence since 2010, when local dental practices, the salaried dental service and a dental supply company shared concerns relating to the extremely high incidence of dental decay (caries) in local children. Now, dental professionals, schools and government are working together in an effort to improve the dental health of children across the country.
