Is your practice taking care of you?

Needlestick injuries in the dental practice have always been a fact of life – and dental nurses receive more than anyone. Many accidents probably go unreported so exact figures are hard to come by but, in 2014, a survey carried out by the British Association of Dental Nurses among their membership found that just over half of the respondents had had a needlestick injury at some stage in their career – and of those who had, 60% said they had had more than one, and 11% had been injured within the last year. In terms of when their injury had occurred, 41% said that it had happened after use, before disposal (1).
