Dental nurses have a continuing role in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, as expected in outcome 7, one of the core Care Quality Commission's 16 quality and safety standards. Safeguarding training should be provided by every practice.
It is now over a year since all providers of primary dental services have had to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and meet government standards to ensure the quality and safety of care.
The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care services in England. To register by April 2011, every practice completed a declaration confirming that all of its quality and safety standards had been or were in the process of being met. These standards are set out in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (HM Government, 2008).
