To help ensure that safeguarding of children and adults is fully understood and carried through into daily practice this article focuses on a five-point plan to ensure your practice is well prepared and responsive to the safeguarding needs of children, young people and adults

Wherever your dental practice is based in the UK there is a regulatory body with a specific remit under legislation to regulate that practice. This is achieved by inspection of each individual practice based on a set of standards, which are enshrined in law (The Health and Personal Social Services (Quality, Improvement and Regulation) (Northern Ireland) Order 2003; The Public Service Reform (Scotland) Act 2010; Independent Health Care (Wales) Regulations 2011; The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014). These standards ensure that all practice is:

Of high quality care

Encourages improvement.
