
Safeguarding means, “protecting people’s health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. It is fundamental to high-quality health and social care.” Safeguarding children and young people in dentistry involves ensuring that dental professionals and staff members take steps to prevent, identify, and respond to child abuse and neglect.
The six principles of safeguarding
Empowerment. The person who is at risk is asked about their wanted outcomes and their decisions, which then informs the safeguarding process.
Prevention. Clear and simple information is provided about abuse, its signs, and how to seek help.
