COVID-19 continues to have a global impact, with high infection numbers and mortality rates still reported daily. As a profession, dentistry is classified as being at considerable risk for the transmission of COVID-19, as the main routes of viral transmission are encountered routinely in dental practice. On 24 March 2020, dental practices in the UK closed as part of a temporary lockdown.
In a letter, ‘Resumption of Dental Services in England’, (dated 28 May 2020) all dental practices were asked to start opening from 8 June, contingent on practices having the ‘necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection prevention and control (IPC)’ protocols and procedures in place.
