Radiography – evolving a career

There are plenty of opportunities for nurses to get involved in extended dental nurse duties. Dental radiography is one of them. Edyta Bednarz explains

Dental nurses are valuable members of the dental care team. Changes in the GDC scope of practice have allowed dental nurses to obtain a nationally recognised qualification that permits them to take radiographs unsupervised. Post-registration qualifications not only makes the dental nurse role more interesting but empowers dental nurses to become more involved in patient treatment and care, enabling an exciting, versatile and rewarding career. Four years after qualifying as a dental nurse it seemed a natural progression for me to obtain the NEBDN radiography qualification. Since achieving the qualification, my role at Dawood and Tanner practice has changed and evolved. Radiography has become a keen interest of mine.
