Mental health is a key factor in our everyday life, but is often neglected. Is this because it cannot be seen, because of its complexity or simply because it carries a stigma?

First, we must consider what we mean by mental health – is it mental health wellness or mental health illness? Mental health, as an umbrella term, appears to be more often than not aligned to a negative position rather than a positive one. It is used to describe periods of sadness, feeling low, bouts of anxiety and stress, as well as more clinical issues, such as depression, personality disorder, psychosis and, potentially, a suicidal crisis.
