Ailsa Gordon
Ailsa Gordon is oral health educator (OHE) at Inverness Dental Centre, Centre for Health Sciences at Raigmore Hospital. She qualified as a dental nurse in 2000 and as an oral health educator in 2004. For her, the role demands a variety of qualities – to be non-judgemental and to be able to demonstrate compassion and humility, respect and honesty.
She adores her role and says: ‘The highlights are seeing the children’s faces beaming when I arrive at their school or nursery to give them a talk, and being able to travel to the places I have as my OHE area. I cover north of Inverness – from Cromarty in the East to Applecross and South Skye in the West and as far North as Dingwall. The schools range in size from six pupils (Kinlochewe Primary and Nursery) to nearly 500 pupils (Dingwall Primary & Nursery) and even more in the secondary schools.’
