I was fortunate in that I had great role models to emanate. My older brother and sister both qualified as dental professionals before me and so I had the opportunity to see how they loved their jobs and to be inspired. My sister qualified as a dental nurse from Dundee University before she went off to become a dental hygienist. Well, there is no pretending that it was not a big step in moving from the relative safety of being a dental nurse in a very much supportive and assisting capacity (as it was then) to being the hands-on clinician. The thought of this though, as often is the case in life, is far more daunting than the reality.
