When it comes to safeguarding, what are the consequences if it all goes wrong?

Ensuring the safety of your patients should be a high priority in your dental practice. The duty might not be explicit in your job description, but as a dental professional, you are legally responsible for protecting the wellbeing of your patients.

This means that you have a duty to ensure all the correct safeguarding procedures are implemented in your practice. This includes everything from displaying posters detailing the emergency contact information of your safeguarding lead person(s) in prominent locations for staff to see, to keeping your safeguarding folder up to date with the most current legal guidance.

That’s not to mention, every member of your team, including admin staff, trainees, volunteers, temps, and peripatetic staff, must complete regular dental safeguarding training and have their verifiable certificates to hand in case a CQC inspector calls.
