New teeth in a day and the role of dental nurses

5 mins read Aesthetic dentistry
General dental practices are increasingly using implant procedures to replace all the teeth in one arch in one day. Dental nurses need to know about how this is carried out so they can support dentists and patients; such knowledge can also improve their career opportunities

The ‘new teeth in a day’ concept has been around for many years and is becoming more widely available in general practice along with routine dentistry.

The technique is used to replace all the teeth in one arch using 4–6 implants, depending on the system used by the dentist. The implants are placed at an angle so a temporary screw-retained bridge restoration can be placed immediately (Figures 1 and 2).

For dental nurses whose practice does not offer this type of procedure, preparing and assisting with advanced treatments such as dental implant placement is not part of daily routine. If this is the case, it is important to gain some knowledge into these and other advanced treatments as this can help you when looking to further your career.
