National Smile Month: a worthy cause

Muireann Hannan looks at the aims of the Oral Health Foundation’s flagship campaign.

National Smile Month is a charity campaign, run by the Oral Health Foundation. The theme of this year’s initiative, which ran from May 16 to June 16, was ‘Everyone deserves a healthy smile’.

Tooth decay is still a major problem, as statistics show that one in three (33 per cent) adults have signs of tooth decay, as well as around one in four (24 per cent) five-year-olds. The campaign provided information and support for thousands of children and families, the elderly and vulnerable, people with disabilities and those living in deprivation or isolation.
