I have always been passionate about dentistry, but I got to the point where I wanted to do more than just dental nursing. I had been working for an agency for four years and loved every minute. I was fortunate to have several long-term placements – covering maternity leave in practices in St Ives and Cambridge – but I needed more to stimulate me. That’s why I started working as a dental assessor with another provider, and taught the NVQ for five years. I then took redundancy and set up Molar Mentoring.
Changes
Dental nursing training has changed so much over the years and I enjoy giving students the opportunity to become qualified dental nurses and have careers – not just a job. I decided to move away from teaching the NVQ and towards the NEBDN national diploma.
