Dental providers are obliged to demonstrate resuscitation skills in the event of an emergency, and provide sufficient and adequate resuscitation equipment within the practice. Skills and knowledge should be updated annually in accordance with Resuscitation Council Guidelines and the General Dental Council standards. All new starters should receive resuscitation training as part of the induction programme.
Resuscitation Council
The Resuscitation Council (UK) states: ‘A patient could collapse on any premises at any time, whether they have received treatment or not. It is therefore essential that ALL registrants are trained in dealing with medical emergencies, including resuscitation, and possess up to date evidence of capability.’
