‘Making Every Contact Count’ (MECC) is a national initiative that encourages health and social care staff to utilise opportunities during routine interactions with patients, aiming to have conversations about making positive improvements to their overall health and wellbeing. The initiative allows brief and consistent healthy lifestyle messages to be delivered to individuals, encouraging people to reflect on their lifestyle behaviours. The aim of ‘MECC’ is to reduce the prevalence of long-term diseases in the population that are attributable to modifiable risks factors. ‘MECC’ interactions should take seconds to a few minutes, they should not add to existing time constraints and should complement the existing provision of care for patients.1
