Lip augmentation: the role of the dental nurse

8 mins read Aesthetic dentistry
Lip-enhancing procedures are becoming increasingly popular in dental practice, and dental nurses can advise patients on procedures and their results. A basic knowledge of lip augmentation will enable nurses to manage patients’ expectations and answer their questions

There are many reasons why women consider lip augmentation, such as wanting to boost their self-confidence, look more attractive or reverse the signs of ageing. Most prefer a subtle, natural-looking effect.

Practitioners offer a multidisciplinary, holistic approach when reshaping the lips to improve their dimensional relation with the patient’s surrounding facial structures.

The appearance of the lips is determined by their spatial relationship with the teeth, so some lip enhancement procedures can be performed by dental surgeons. Dental nurses have become involved in non-surgical cosmetic enhancing procedures, playing a role not only in assisting the aesthetic practitioner but also in supporting the patient before, during and after treatment by providing procedure-related information and managing expectations.
