“You are exactly where you are meant to be.” I remember the first time I heard someone say that to me. At that point in my life, I had just left my job as a dental nurse. ‘How could I be exactly where I’m meant to be?’, I thought. I was filled with disappointment in myself and multiple questions and fears. How could it go so wrong? Why wasn’t I good enough? And, perhaps the scariest question of all… What do I do now?
Back to the beginning
To build a picture for you, I had just turned 18 and finished my last year of college with flying colours. Whilst many of my classmates were looking to university as their next step, something inside me said I wasn’t ready to commit to a course just yet. After all, I hadn’t had a taste of the working world, other than a Saturday job in my local takeaway or helping my dad on the family farm. How could anyone bet £9k a year on knowing what they wanted at such an early stage of their working life? A university degree was always something I knew I wanted to attain, but I needed to make sure the course I was choosing was the right one. That’s when I found a job application for a local dental practice as a trainee dental nurse.
