This article meets GDC development outcomes B, C, D.
As a dental nurse, your role as an educator might not be obvious, but there are times when your role involves teaching others. This article will discuss the importance of understanding the power of teaching by observation and highlight some techniques that support interprofessional education. Our role as educators is related to the GDC standards; principles 6,7 and 9 (GDC., 2013). We are working with colleagues to help develop their skills and knowledge, this in turn is in the patient’s best interest, supports peer development and maintains confidence in the profession. With such a focus on the outcome of this teaching, this makes the role of an educator important, not just for the development of the profession but also for patient care.
