Clementine Rees Brown speaks with practice owner Polly Bhambra about her approach to recruitment and how she promotes a healthy workplace culture.

In terms of your day-to-day management style, do you think you take a different approach given the career path that led you to being a practice owner?

My approach is definitely different to others in the industry. I didn’t take the typical ‘university’ career route, I was a dental nurse at 16 and have learnt everything from the ‘bottom up’ as it were. I’ll be turning 50 next year, and my management style is noticeably different as a result of my journey compared to other principals/dentists. I understand the stresses and pressures from a dental nurse’s perspective, and now also from a dentist or practice owner’s perspective, so I believe I am able to have empathy with issues on both sides.
