Sue Davies retired as a dental nurse last year. Here, she reflects on the changes over the decades with Tina Gorman

Sue Davies retired from Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Community Dental Service in November, aged 63.

A dental nurse for 47 years, she trained part-time at Wolverhampton Technical College whilst working in the Dudley Area Health Authority. She says: ‘This has had a number of name changes over the years and is now known as Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Community Dental Service.’

Sue’s choice of career was perhaps inevitable. She explains: ‘My mother was a dental nurse and also worked for Dudley Area Health Authority back in the early 1970s. I managed to overlap working alongside my mum, who worked in the service until shortly after I started. A mother and daughter team if you like – keeping it in the family.’
