‘It just wouldn’t happen...’

Child abuse and neglect is a reality – are you and your team aware of all the signs?

Are you aware that one of your professional duties as a dental nurse is to keep up to date with regular safeguarding training, so that you are able to notice if an individual might be at risk of abuse or neglect?

While we would all like to think that it ‘just wouldn’t happen’ to anyone we know, the fact is that hundreds of thousands of individuals suffer abuse and neglect every year in the UK alone. These individuals could be anyone – your neighbour, a friend, a patient visiting your dental practice, or even a colleague.

Because you work in a healthcare setting, it is a legal requirement for you to know the signs of abuse and neglect, and to understand how and when to report your concerns if you suspect someone might be at risk.
