Trainee dental nurse Nikita White reveals how she flew to Morocco – and out of her comfort zone – to help provide much-needed dental care in the Atlas Mountains

I’m a 19-year-old trainee dental nurse working at The Smile Centre in Liskeard, Cornwall, and recently won the opportunity to go to Morocco with dental charity, the Dental Mavericks, to offer much-needed dental care alongside a group of other dental nurses, hygienists and dentists.

I entered the competition, which was sponsored by DNS Staffing Solutions, because I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to go to another country to provide treatment for people without the same level of dental care as here in the UK.

Weeks went by and I hadn’t heard anything, so assumed someone else had been chosen. Then, five weeks later, I got an email asking me to ring the charity and I was told I had won. I was over the moon! I was going to Morocco to provide pain-free dentistry to children and adults. I cannot explain how nervous and anxious I felt...
